Domestic Abuse & Violence in FGCs

Are you delivering Family Group Conferences (FGCs) where domestic abuse or violence is a concern? Do you or your team struggle with balancing collaboration and the risk of collusion? Keen to build confidence in this complex area? This is the course for you.

Practitioners must understand the risks domestic abuse poses to participants and the FGC process. Our role is to manage these risks safely and sensitively, while ensuring the process remains impartial, inclusive, and child-focused. This is always important—but especially critical when FGCs aim to address or reduce abuse and its impact on children.

Join us for the one-day virtual course to build confidence in managing FGCs in the context of abuse, and develop skills to manage risk and promote collaboration without collusion.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between domestic abuse and parental conflict

  • Understand the impact of domestic abuse and violence on children, adult victims, perpetrators, and the wider network

  • Engage safely with perpetrators during preparation and meetings

  • Facilitate safe, inclusive, and productive FGCs, with children and abused individuals at the centre

  • Reflect on how personal values and biases may influence practice

Important: This course includes real-life case scenarios. Participants will also be encouraged to reflect on their own values, considering unconscious bias in their practice. The trainer will be available at the end of the course for additional reflection.

Led by an experienced Family Group Conference Coordinator and Manager, with experience in delivering FGC programmes specifically focused on Domestic Abuse and Violence.
